What is a Business Register Number?

Every enterprise entered in the Austrian Business Register is assigned its own Business Register Number (FN). This number consists of up to six digits followed by a check letter and serves to uniquely identify the legal entity.

The Business Register Number remains permanently assigned, even if company data such as name, address or legal form change. The number also remains in existence after a company has been deleted. This ensures that Historical Extracts from the Business Register and documents of deleted companies can still be accessed.

Official information and online enquiries regarding the Business Register Number are available on the website of the Federal Ministry of Justice (BMJ).
