ZMR Query – Central Population Register Austria

The Central Population Register (ZMR) is the central database of the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI). Via firmenbuchgrundbuch.at (fbgb), authorised persons and organisations can carry out ZMR queries online in order to view the current registration data of persons registered in Austria.

What is the Central Population Register (ZMR)?

The ZMR contains the registration data of all natural persons registered in Austria. This data is continuously updated by the municipalities. The ZMR query enables authorised institutions to access this data in a legally compliant manner – for example for administrative procedures, credit assessments or legal purposes.

Who is allowed to carry out a ZMR query?

A ZMR query is only permitted for certain authorised bodies, such as:

  • Authorities and public institutions
  • Credit institutions and insurance companies
  • Lawyers, notaries and courts
  • Energy suppliers or telecommunications companies
  • Banks, debt collection agencies and insurance assessors

These authorisations are examined by the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI).
